I've recently discovered the art of bento-making. Here are my favorite links:

Really neat webiste about bentos
Love this one!

More about the boxes
So...I decided to try it. I love that it gets you thinking about having a healthy "rainbow" of colors in the lunch. And because it just looks like so much fun! I even picked up some fun things at the dollar store to use for my "bentos".
Makenna's first bento. Abc's & 123's spagettio's, baby carrots and bugels with fat-free dressing for a dip, a "skewer" of golden raspberries, and a piece of strawberry breakfast bar. I think it needs more green! (which I added later in the form of fresh green bell pepper, her fav)
She was very curious when I was making it and kept asking me questions. I brought it over to the table saying, "Ta-da!" :) When she said she was all done (she had 2nd helpings of several things) I asked her if it was fun. She shook her head yes and had a big smile on her face.
Now for Livy's. I actually got this idea from a "Muffin Tin Monday" blog I read. Like a bento but in a muffin or whatever container. This is a hawaiian flower ice cube tray from the dollar store. Livy has the spagetttios, "sticks" of the breakfast bar, shredded cheese, raspberries, then at the end I put a squirt of mayo and some dressing. Sounds unusal, but I like her to try different things. I once read about a neat idea to put different condiments, etc, in a muffin tin or small bowls to let your toddler dip their finger in to taste and feel the texture of things.
She isn't sure what to think...and I don't knwo how to make them upright, they usually do it automatically.
